Counseling
So, you’re thinking about counseling?
Maybe someone told you to get counseling. Maybe your life has become so unmanageable you’re desperate and willing to try whatever it takes to get your life under control. Perhaps you just want to make a minor adjustment. You’ve been to counseling before, know it helps and have decided it’s time for more. Counseling equips you with a guide to help you get where you want to go. You might not be exactly certain of your goal, you just know that where you are is not where you want to be, and that’s OK. Part of the counseling process is to help you determine what you want out of it.
There are lots of therapists and lots of different ways to “guide” clients. Finding the right therapist for you is the key to your success. Here’s what you need to know about me. I am a real person who fully understands the ups and downs of life and our own humanity. I understand what it’s like to lack direction, to fight with loved ones, to want to run away, to question my abilities and to hurt so deeply I’m not sure how I’m going to make it to the next breath. I walk with you on your journey as one who is ahead of you. Ahead enough to be able to show you the way but not so far that I have forgotten what it’s like to be on this journey.
My first session with every client starts with finding out what you want to get out of counseling. What will be different in your life that will indicate you got what you wanted? Your answer provides the destination for our map. The remaining time you devote to counseling with me will be spent on providing you with the tools, clarity and healing to help you get there. I offer individual counseling for adults and marriage counseling (couples counseling).
I am a supporter of recovery programs like AA, NA, Celebrate Recovery and Shift. I believe that while counseling is valuable and serves a purpose, the biggest changes will occur in relationships with safe people. I will encourage you in your process to develop connections with people who can support you in making the changes you want. Most of the issues we have are linked in some way to relationships or connection with others. I will help you understand the whys behind your connection issues, but to create healthier connections you must practice with safe people.
Karen is incredibly compassionate while honest and truthful so you get the best of your time working on your “stuff.”
